Study Break Music ♥

Monday, November 30th, 2009

It’s the last week of classes for Queen’s students and exam time is almost here. Studying, Christmas shopping, parties; there’s so much to do. To get through it all, here is some great music I’ve been listening to lately…

Pilot Speed Wooden Bones; beautiful, thought provoking lyrics. love it!
Passion Pit Sleepyhead; the first time I heard PP, I was taken aback. They are so different, but the beats are amazing. Sleepyhead is their breakout hit.
Florence and the Machine Lungs; one of the songs on this album was used in the British TV series Skins, since then I’ve loved all of her music.

Parties + Statement Shoes = Heaven

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

From Cinderella’s perfect glass shoe to Dorothy’s ruby slippers that magically take her home, shoes are almost always the most important part of any outfit. They are also the most fun accessory to shop for. Right now at Agent 99, you can find all sorts of beautiful party shoes for the holiday season. Here are a few of my personal favourites:

What I love about party shoes this season is that they really make a statement. They are tough, but also pretty. They can take any regular outfit to a whole new level. For anyone who is not as much of a fashion risk taker as I am, shoes are a great way to experiment with new looks. From the elegant peep toe to the sexy strappy design, these shoes carry their own personality with them.

What else do I love about these shoes? The price. All of them retail between $45 – $65!! You can’t complain about something amazing at a great price. Check them out at Agent 99 today!

Dresses, Tresses, and Princesses!

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

It’s November, and party season has officially started. It’s one of my favourite times of the year to go shopping. Everybody is in the Christmas spirit, and there is nothing better than shopping for that perfect dress. There are so many colours and styles to try. Agent 99 is packed full of dresses right now; I can attest to this. The Trunk Sale may be over, but there are still so many cute and reasonably priced party dresses to choose from. Pink, black, red, green! Strapless, halter, long, short! The only problem is choosing just one (okay… maybe two).

If you’re looking for something different from a dress this party season, a great way to go is with the one-piece suit. They’re comfortable (no awkwardly tugging at your dress straps all night…), and they are also great in cold weather. Now I know what you’re thinking; aren’t suits too masculine and simple? But really, it’s all about how you dress them up. With a one piece suit, you can wear ultra-feminine accessories, makeup, and hairstyles that might too much with the standard dress. And in a sea of blue and pink dresses, you know you’ll stand out in the crowd. Personally, I admire anyone who is willing to take a fashion risk. Who says the princess can’t wear a suit?

Investing in Denim & Other Basics

Rihanna in a pair of Rock & Republic jeans

Often when I’m out shopping, I tend to focus too much on finding pieces that are unique and show off my individuality. Therefore, my wardrobe is lacking in basics. I’ve got the sequined boyfriend blazer, and the metallic mini skirt. But what everybody needs is a good quality pair of jeans that we will love for years to come. We can throw them on without thinking, and wear them with almost anything. Effortless and always cool, I think that jeans are the most important part of any wardrobe. If you’re going to spend a little extra money on anything, it should be a quality pair of jeans like these Rock & Republics worn by Rihanna.

Dress Log At Your Service

Friday, November 6th, 2009

People always joke and say that a girl’s biggest fear is having her dress make a second appearance at the same event. While this nightmare has never happened to me personally, at my grade 8 graduation two of my best friends showed up in the exact same dress. And in a class of 20 students, it was a big deal. They were wearing it in different colours, but neither of them seemed to be concerned with that detail. Needless to say, they weren’t very happy with each other. Even our 13 year old selves knew that wearing the same dress was painfully uncool.

Unfortunately for us, our local boutiques didn’t have Agent 99’s dress log. At Agent 99, when dresses are purchased, they are logged according to specific events. Many girls come from the entire region because of Agent 99’s reliability. I’m sure this will be very beneficial when the various faculties at Queen’s host their annual formals next spring. With Agent 99’s dress log, there’s no need to worry about not standing out with an original ensemble at your next big event.
